Santa Claus - My hero

My relationship with Santa has changed over the years. As a child of course I could not wait for Him to visit me in December. As I grew older my idealism was crowded out by the rampant commercialism of the whole Christmas season. And as a Christian I wanted Christmas to be about Jesus and His visitation. It did not help that my sweet wife loves to collect Santa stuff. We have antique Santa cookie jars, candles, ornaments, stickers, lights, snow globes, table cloths, christmas tree skirts, sweaters, hats, rugs, cookie cutters, mugs…you get the idea. She sent me an article this year about the origins of “Santa Claus”. Here is a little of what it says. Nicholas grew up in a godly home. After his parents died when he was five years old he gave to those less blessed. He became a Bishop known for his holiness and passion for the Gospel. He was eventually tortured for preaching the Bible, and spent time in prison. After being released he still defended the faith. So now when I think of Santa I think of a godly man who was imprisoned for his faith and provided for children, the weak, and the poor. He had a passion for God and his purpose in life was to point people to Jesus.  My Hero.
